A Study is the deliberate investigation of a subject, form, idea, or phenomenon. In art, a study is used to explore perception, composition, material, light, anatomy, space, or other design-related questions independently of a finished work. A Study is therefore not merely preliminary or incomplete but possesses its own intrinsic value as a means of inquiry.
