jahdara is the artistic authorial identity of the German-Kenyan artist and author Philipp Alexander Madara Wango. Under this name, Graphic Novels, drawings, essays, and philosophical works are created, exploring perception, consciousness, space, identity, and the relationship between the visible and the invisible.

The name emerged from a personal and cultural history. “Madara” is the creator’s third given name and reflects his Kenyan heritage. According to a family tradition, he was to receive the name of a close relative who was believed to have died in the year of his birth. That relative had been sentenced to death during a period of political unrest in Kenya but ultimately survived, and the name was nevertheless passed on to the newborn.

During many years of philosophical and spiritual exploration, Philipp Alexander Madara Wango transformed the name further. “Madara” became jahdara. The prefix “Jah” refers to the name of God, Yahweh, as used particularly within the Orthodox Christian tradition and the Rastafari faith. This addition is not intended as a religious profession of faith, but as a reference to a lifelong search for origin, truth, and transcendence that forms the intellectual foundation of the artistic work.

jahdara therefore represents more than a person. The name stands for a digital studio, a philosophical attitude, and a long-term authorial identity in which thought, creation, and life increasingly speak the same language.
